External FAQs

Are your products energy efficient?

As standard we offer a B-rated thermal performance which meets the requirements of Part L for an existing dwelling.

We offer an enhanced A-rated thermal performance, visually identical, which exceeds the requirements of Part L for an existing dwelling.

We offer double-glazing as standard on all external doors; very high performing krypton gas-filled double-glazed units are used to help us achieve our excellent thermal performance.  The industry standard is to fill with Argon gas, which is cheaper but poorer performing.  We cannot fit a triple-glazed unit in the depth of our slim frames.

We offer a bespoke product manufactured to the nearest mm in a variety of designs.  As an indicator, a set of external french doors can start from around £4,000 + VAT and we can offer various services on top (survey/ delivery/ installation etc); all of this would be detailed in a formal estimate on receipt of your project details (incl plans, elevations etc).

Without a doubt, the initial cost of steel doors is offset against their significant longevity versus timber, plastic or aluminium alternatives.  This longevity is not just based on their durability and low maintenance requirements but also from an architectural perspective; their aesthetic appeal is timeless and stands the test of time and are recognised as a premium feature that can yield higher resale prices of a property.

Fabco manufactures from actual mild steel – the strength and durability comes from the material itself and can be fabricated to precise architectural specifications including complex shapes and slimmer sightlines.  The glazing bars, synonymous with this style of glazing are welded in to the frame for strength and rigidity resulting in an authentic, high-quality product.

Steel-look doors are commonly made from aluminium and engineered to look like steel with larger sightlines and reduced glazing area.  The glazing bars are stuck on to the glass and generally look far less considered and elegant.

If your existing fenestration is steel and you are looking to upgrade, we can help provide the relevant information and drawings to pass to your Building Inspector to support your planning application.

Our advances in engineering mean that our steel door frames require minimal upkeep, aside from an occasional clean, lubricant, and application of beeswax to the ironmongery. Our frames have intricate, hidden welds to exacting technical drawings and once manufactured, the entire frame is dipped in its entirety, in to a molten zinc mix (a process known as galvanising). This anti-corrosion process provides a durable layer of protection, which is then painted to your chosen RAL colour.

Our factory is in West Sussex and you are welcome to visit our showroom & factory by appointment. Our supply-chain includes glass and ironmongery all made in the UK.

It’s always worth speaking with us directly.  However, as an indicator we can manufacture and install bespoke steel doors in as little as 10-12 weeks.

Yes! We install across mainland UK.

Our designs are created to stand the test of time, making them ideal for projects where exceptional quality, long-term performance and design integrity really matter. You can also expect excellent thermal performance and elegantly slim sightlines.
As a general guide, our pricing is as follows (goods only):
• Single external doors: from £2,500–£3,500+
• Double doors: from £4,000–£6,000+
• Larger installations (e.g. doors with screens): from £8,000–£10,000+
Our optional services, such as site survey, delivery and installation, are priced individually depending on factors like location and the scope of your project. We'll be happy to provide a detailed estimate.

What sets Fabco frames apart?
Fabco frames use hot-rolled steel for production, produced in Switzerland for uncompromising quality, and shipped directly to our factory in West Sussex where are in house team fabricate the frames.

Why choose steel glazing or aluminium?
Steel is much stronger than aluminium, enabling our products to maintain a slimmer profile whilst also spanning further per leaf. For example, our external doors can be scaled up to 2500mm (H), whereas an aluminium frame that is four times the profile size is limited to 2400mm (H). Watch out for 'steel-like' products, they are still aluminium!
Our frames also use authentic steel glazing bars welded into the frame during fabrication, whereas other like-for-like products can consist of 10-12mm plastic glazing bars adhered to the glass which fail over time due to fluctuations in conditions.

Do you work with heritage sites?
Fabco can and has produced steel glazing for heritage and listed building sites, with some beautiful examples on our social media. We can offer single glazing for these projects in line with building control requirements.

Double or triple glazing?
Due to the slim nature of our frames steel profile, Fabco are able to fit an 18mm double glazed unit into the frames. Triple glazing is unfortunately too chunky for our product, and requires a larger aluminium profile. We use an incredibly high performing double glazed unit, filled with Krypton gas which performs far greater than the industry standard Argon gas

Can you offer different locking options?
We offer a standard 5-lever locking system with our external doors, with the option to upgrade to our multipoint locking for extra security. Multipoint is required if the door(s) is a final point of exit. We can also offer PAS24 security certified doors, subject to design.

What makes Fabco steel doors different?
Our frames are one of the slimmest and thermally efficient on the market, allowing us to maximise glazing areas to maintain unobstructed sightlines, bringing as much natural light into your property as possible.
